Inside Catchers U: A Look at Our Facility and Our Training Philosophy
If you've ever wondered what actually happens inside Catchers U, owner Jack Ferrick recently took our social media followers behind the scenes for a real, unscripted walkthrough of the facility, showing the space where our players put in the work every day. Here's what he showed off, and what it says about how we train.
A Facility Built for Real Reps
The tour starts right where the work happens: our turf training cages. As Jack points out: we have three cages, each one set up for hitting, throwing, and catching-specific drills, not just generic batting practice. The turf floors and full cage netting mean players can work at full speed and full intensity without worrying about space or safety, whether that's a bucket of throws, a round of live at-bats, or footwork drills behind the plate.
Beyond the cages, the facility is stocked with the tools that actually move the needle for athletes: agility ladders, stability and medicine balls, ground-work stations, and a dedicated setup for defensive footwork. Jack also shows off the tech side of the operation. Catchers U has a video and data tracking station where players and coaches can review swings, pop times, and throwing mechanics on screen, not just talk about them. It's the kind of detail that shows this isn't a generic batting cage rental. It's a facility purpose-built around player development.
Not Just Catching
One thing Jack makes a point of highlighting: training at Catchers U isn't limited to being behind the plate. Players also work in other positions, building the all-around athleticism and baseball IQ that makes a great catcher (and a great teammate) in the first place. Whether it's ground balls, throwing programs, or general skill work, the facility is set up to develop complete players, not just position specialists.
Catchers U started out focusing on catchers because many teams lacked the time and/or knoweldge to dedicate partice time to catchers. But now Catchers U has expanded to all positions for defensive and offensive training (check out the Fundamentals U training options).
The Culture: "Did U Get Better Today?"
Writen right on the wall of the facility is a simple question that sums up the whole philosophy here: "Did U get better today?" It's not about a single swing, catch, or workout. It's about showing up and making measurable progress, one rep and one drill at a time.
That mindset comes through in the small, personal touches Jack shares in the video too (inside jokes with the players, Catchers U branded gear, even the family dog making an appearance). It's a reminder that behind the equipment and the training tech, this is a close-knit community built around effort. As Jack puts it, some things about the culture here simply "can't be bought." They're earned through the work put in day after day.
Come See It for Yourself
From the turf to the tools to the tracking technology, everything at Catchers U is designed around one goal: building confident, skilled players through consistent, focused reps. Pictures and video only tell part of the story. The best way to understand what makes our facility different is to walk through the doors yourself.
